If you’re a coffee fanatic or stay up-to-date on all of the latest social media trends, you’re probably familiar with whipped coffee. During quarantine, this unique spin on the drink took TikTok by storm and became a viral sensation! It’s easy to make, looks aesthetically pleasing, and it gives caffeine lovers a quick fix while they’re stuck at home.
This tasty beverage is extremely popular in countries around the world, under a few different names. You’ll hear it as Dalgona Coffee in South Korea, Frappe Coffee in Greece, and Beaten Coffee in India. It takes a few simple household ingredients (and a lot of patience) to make, but this drink is worth it!
If you’re curious to try it, or are willing to give it another go, we have the right recipe for you! There are some variations to the recipe that we’ve included below, but feel free to add your own coffee favorites to the drink.
Here’s what you’ll need to make delicious whipped coffee right at home via feelgoodfoodie.net:
- 1 Tablespoon Instant Coffee
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Water
- 8 oz. Milk (Hot or Iced)
- Whisk, Milk Frother, or Standing Mixer
- Mixing Bowl
- Mug or Cup to Serve
This recipe can take about 10-20 minutes and yields one serving. To increase the serving size, adjust the coffee, sugar, and hot water ingredients by increments of 1 Tablespoon and increase the milk to serve.
1.Begin by adding your instant coffee, sugar, and water in a bowl (Tip: we recommend using hot water to quickly activate the instant coffee for faster results).
2. Using your whisk or milk frother, combine the ingredients. You’ll slowly see the mixture change from a thin, dark liquid to a lighter, whipped consistency. You can stop when peaks are formed on the whisk. This step will take the longest to reach the correct consistency, so don’t lose hope!
3. Spoon your whipped mixture over milk and enjoy!
This delicious treat tastes great over milk, or you can drink it with iced or hot water for an Americano taste. Your new whipped coffee is really strong by itself, so be sure to mix it with your milk or water before drinking! Add toppings like caramel, chocolate sauce, cinamon, or whipped cream to spice up this drink and give it a personal touch.
You can also make this drink without sugar or by using a sugar substitute, such as Stevia, but it won’t lighten in color or whip as well. Tea drinkers can substitute Matcha powder in place of the instant coffee for their own twist.
